Getting Started

How do I know a cask is authentic?2025-11-25T14:40:32+00:00

Every cask listed on LYQD must pass authenticity checks, including warehouse verification and documentation review, before becoming eligible for listing.

Who can list a cask for sale?2025-11-25T14:40:14+00:00

Verified Members only. To request a listing, please contact us.

Listings & Verification

Do I need to disclose if my cask has been re-racked or re-coopered?2025-11-25T14:42:05+00:00

Yes. Any material change to the cask (re-racking, finishing, repairs) must be disclosed before listing. If you make material changes to your cask via request to LYQD, then listing details will be updated accordingly.

How long will my listing stay live?2025-11-25T14:41:48+00:00

Listings stay live until they receive an offer or are withdrawn by the seller.

Can LYQD refuse a listing?2025-11-25T14:41:30+00:00

Yes, to maintain the quality of casks and members, LYQD may decline to list casks that do not meet platform requirements (on grounds of authenticity, documentation, warehouse eligibility, etc.) as outlined in the Terms and Conditions (Rule Book).

Who sets the price of a cask?2025-11-25T14:41:12+00:00

Sellers set their own price and reserve price. LYQD does not appraise, value or recommend pricing. Any indications on similar cask prices are approximations only, and should not be used as a pricing recommendation.

Can I remove a listing after it goes live?2025-11-25T14:40:54+00:00

Yes, you can remove your cask from LYQD at any time before it receives an offer. If an offer has been submitted, removal is not permitted while an active offer is pending.

Settlement

How long does it take to receive my funds after selling?2025-11-25T14:46:52+00:00

Our Payment Service Provider typically transfers seller’s proceeds within 3 business days of settlement. See Fees, Taxes and Payments.

How do payments flow?2025-11-25T14:46:32+00:00

To complete a binding trade, Buyer funds are held in escrow by Stripe Connect, LYQD’s trusted 3rd party Payment Service Provider. No client monies are held by LYQD. Upon settlement of a binding trade funds are released from escrow to the seller, minus applicable fees and taxes.

How long does settlement take?2025-11-25T14:46:05+00:00

Standard timelines are up to 5 business/working days after trade confirmation, but compliance or documentation issues can extend this. Our Payment Service Provider typically transfers seller’s proceeds within 3 business days of settlement. See Fees, Taxes and Payments for more on payment flows.

What happens if a buyer doesn’t complete payment?2025-11-25T14:45:45+00:00

If payment is not completed within the required timeframe, the listing reopens and fees or penalties may apply to the buyer depending on the LYQD Terms and Conditions (Rulebook).

Custody & Ownership

Do I have physical access to the warehouse?2025-11-25T15:12:42+00:00

Not by default and by advance appointment only. Casks are stored with others in a warehouse and access may require careful planning. Any access/handling is coordinated with our 3rd party tax / excise warehouses via LYQD and may incur a handling fee and is made available by advance appointment only, subject to warehouse approval and lead times.

Does LYQD provide any storage certificates or title certificates?2025-11-25T14:48:22+00:00

Yes, digital cask ownership certificates are provided, but it is important to note that these are time stamped, subject to change and do not offer proof of ownership under law. The warehouse’s excise record remains the legal custodial record for the payment of any suspended duty and sales tax related to a cask. LYQD provides a Trade Receipt to buyer and sellers, which reflects the change in cask ownership on the LYQD and warehouse ledger, and details the total consideration paid by the buyer.

Fees, Taxes & Payments

What fees does LYQD charge?2025-11-25T15:27:52+00:00

Common items include listing, commissions, storage/insurance, handling, re-gauging, bottling, withdrawal/transfer, and admin for excise/duty. Exact figures are published in the LYQD Price List.

Are taxes included in prices/fees?2025-11-25T14:50:07+00:00

It depends. Sales tax / VAT, excise duties and other taxes applicable to the cask are additional where applicable, on removal from a tax / excise warehouse. You’re responsible for your own tax obligations; LYQD may be legally required to collect/remit in some cases. A service Sales tax / VAT is applicable to LYQDs fees, and will be charged at the point of sale. VAT registered businesses may be exempt, depending on the location of operation.

How are fees paid?2025-11-25T14:49:45+00:00

Fees will be deducted automatically from sale proceeds, deposits, or balances held before disbursement of sale proceeds to the seller.

Are there annual platform fees?2025-11-25T14:49:26+00:00

Membership of LYQD is currently free. A €75 listing fee applies when you publish a cask on the platform and standard annual maturation fees also apply (to cover storage and insurance costs). Please refer to our Terms and Conditions (Rulebook) for full details.

Can I pay by bank transfer?2025-11-25T14:49:08+00:00

Payments including bank transfer must be completed through Stripe Connect, which is a 3rd party escrow style service connected to your bank account. Direct bank transfers or off-platform payments are not accepted, for peer to peer transactions as LYQD does not hold client money. Exceptions apply when LYQD is the seller of record.

What currencies can I use to buy or sell casks?2025-11-25T14:48:50+00:00

Currently LYQD supports transactions in EUR and GBP. Our 3rd party payment provider, Stripe Connect, may apply its own FX conversion fees depending on your payment method and your connected bank account.

Warehousing

Can I move my cask to a different warehouse myself?2025-11-25T14:52:10+00:00

Movements must be organised through LYQD and authorised by both sending and receiving warehouses. Direct arrangements with warehouses bypassing LYQD are not permitted.

Can I choose the warehouse where my cask is stored?2025-11-25T14:51:47+00:00

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. For listing on the LYQD exchange a cask must be stored within LYQD’s authorised warehouse network to ensure the validity of listings. In some instances, casks may be listed subject to conditional delivery by the seller to a location within our authorised warehouse network.

What happens if a cask is found to be empty or below expectation?2025-11-25T14:51:29+00:00

The warehouse’s official measurement is final. If loss is due to angel’s share or evaporation, this is normal and not covered by insurance. If physical damage is involved, we handle review your claim under the LYQD insurance policy terms. The insurer’s decision is final.

How are cask volumes verified? (Re-gauging / Fill Levels)2025-11-25T14:50:45+00:00

Re-gauging is performed only by the tax / excise warehouse. LYQD does not estimate or certify liquid volume. ABV and LPA are estimates only. You may request a re-gauge through LYQD, and the warehouse will provide an official measurement of litres and ABV at that point in time. Handling fees apply.

Insurance

Is my cask insured?2025-11-25T14:52:54+00:00

Casks in LYQD’s custody subscription are covered under policies arranged by LYQD or the warehouse (e.g., fire, theft, storm damage), subject to policy limits/exclusions and up to date payment of your subscription for custody services. Insurance does not cover market price movements.

Sampling & Bottling

Can I bottle my cask privately or use my own bottler?2025-11-25T14:53:14+00:00

Yes, requests must be submitted via LYQD. Private bottling may be possible depending on warehouse rules and regulatory requirements and subject to local law. Handling fees apply.

Conduct

How do I complain about LYQD or a member?2025-11-25T14:53:40+00:00

Submit a written complaint to the designated contact. We aim to reply within 10 business days.

Disputes & Enforcement

What happens if two people want to buy the same cask?2025-11-25T14:54:05+00:00

Casks are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a buyer submits a valid payment, or a seller accepts a buyer’s offer, the cask becomes unavailable for sale to others until a binding trade is complete, or the sales process is ended.
