Teeling Secures €30m. Mayo’s Ballina Distillery Reborn. Consolidation Accelerates.
Despite the difficult climate, targeted investment continues. Teeling Whiskey secured a €30 million investment from Quintessential Brands in April 2025 for distillery expansion and new product lines.
The Wider Theme Of Consolidation
The distillery also welcomed its one-millionth visitor in 2025 — marking a decade since opening in Dublin’s Liberties.
In County Mayo, Connacht Distillery — purchased by French Terroir Distillers in September 2024 — has rebranded as Ballina Distillery and released its inaugural single malts: the first whiskeys from County Mayo in 150 years.
The wider theme is consolidation. The boom era of 2015–2022, when distillery numbers grew from four to over forty, produced a cohort of businesses that launched into a crowded market with limited working capital. Those with strong balance sheets will absorb weaker competitors; those that remain will be leaner, more premium-focused — and the cask market will be more selective for it.
